Busitema’s University Librarian Elected President of Uganda Library and Information Association
Dr. Fredrick Lugya Kiwuuwa, the University Librarian at Busitema University was recently elected as the President of the Uganda Library and Information Association (ULIA) for the period 2024-2027 further enhancing his distinguished professional portfolio. This announcement came during ULIA’s Annual General Meeting held on Friday November 15, 2024, where Dr. Lugya succeeded Mr. Ekwaro Francis, the outgoing president.
Founded in 2001, ULIA is a professional body dedicated to representing the interests of Library and Information Science (LIS) professionals including librarians, archivists, data managers, and records managers as well as other stakeholders involved in the collection, organization and dissemination of information. The Association plays a key role in advocating for access to information in line with Uganda's legal frameworks.
This achievement is of considerable importance to Busitema University as Dr. Lugya’s leadership role within ULIA demonstrates the institution’s commitment to advancing the field of Library and Information Science. It also provides an opportunity for Busitema University to contribute more actively to the national discourse on information management, policy development and the promotion of access to information in Uganda. Dr. Lugya’s new position is a testament to his expertise and the recognition of Busitema University as a significant player in the academic and professional development of LIS in the country.
